Spanish Town Police FC surprise Dunbeholden with 2-0 win
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Last placed Spanish Town Police FC surprised Dunbeholden FC, beating them 2-0 in their rescheduled Jamaica Premier League (JPL) second round game played at the Dunbeholden Community Centre on Thursday.
Goals in the first half from Lastson Reid and the second half by Ryieme Gayle, carried the promoted Spanish Town Police FC to their third win of the season and avenged their first round 1-0 loss.
Despite the win, Spanish Town Police FC are still at the foot of the table on 12 points, with Dunbeholden FC, who were losing back-to-back games for the first time this season, remained in ninth place on 25 points.
A win for Dunbeholden FC would have seen them move up to fifth place in the tables.
Spanish Town Police FC took the lead in the 42nd minute after they completed a good build-up, which saw the team move the ball from the right-hand corner flag with three passes, and Reid fired the ball low into the left-hand corner of the goal.
Gayle got his team’s second after the Dunbeholden FC goalkeeper Jean-Luke Wilmott and a teammate collided as they both went after a cross, missed the ball and allowed the Spanish Town Police FC player alone at the back post to calmly play the ball across the goal line.
