Anya Schnoor retiring from Scotia Group board
Anya Schnoor is set to retire from the board of Scotia Group Jamaica Limited (SGJ) as she concentrates her focus on growing Scotiabank’s global insurance strategy.
Schnoor will not seek re-election at the company’s upcoming annual general meeting (AGM) on March 4 and will retire from the board after a five-year stint as a director. She will hand over the chair role to Vernon Douglas who currently serves as the chair of The Bank of Nova Scotia Jamaica Limited (Scotiabank Jamaica). Schnoor became the first Jamaican woman to chair Scotia Group’s board in December 2022.
Schnoor joined Scotiabank Jamaica in May 2006 and was elevated to executive vice-president (EVP) – global insurance in November 2024. She previously served as EVP for the Caribbean, Central America & Uruguay for Scotiabank’s International Banking division which is now occupied by Colombian Jabar Singh.
“It was a great privilege to have worked with the esteemed Board of Directors and Management team. I started my career with Scotiabank here in Jamaica and have been proud that the first home for Scotiabank outside of North America continues to set the bar for financial performance and good corporate governance in the local market. I have the utmost confidence that it will continue to do so for many decades to come,” Schnoor said in the release.
Vernon Douglas
Due to Douglas being elevated to the SGJ chairman role, he will pass the chairman role of Scotiabank Jamaica to Audrey Richards. Richards is currently the chair of Scotia Investments Jamaica Limited and Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance Company Limited.
Scotia Group Jamaica will hold its AGM at the Iberostar Selection Rose Hall in Montego Bay, St James. The financial conglomerate has traditionally held its shareholder meeting in Kingston, but the move to host it outside of Kingston comes in wake of efforts to support western Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa.
