Charly Black, J Capri’s Whine and Kotch still ‘giving’
Almost 14 years after it was released, the song Whine and Kotch by J Capri and Charly Black, has been certified silver in the United Kingdom.
The song, produced by Rvssian, was recorded in September 2012 and released in December that year via Head Concussion Records.
The silver certification, which commemorates sales and streaming equivalent of 200,000 units, was issued by the British Phonographic Industry on Friday, January 30.
In an exclusive interview with the Jamaica Observer’s Splash, Charly Black recalled working with J Capri on the song, which became a hit across Europe.
“One of the things that I told her when we finished recording the song, mi tell her she ago tour pon da song ya. I told her in September and the song was released in December. I met her in Paris in February of 2013 and the song buss by then. This is a very good feeling to hear that the song has been certified silver. RIP J Capri, and big up the producer Head Concussion Records,” Charly Black told Splash on the weekend.
He added: “This is a very big accomplishment and I feel very honoured. You know say J Capri is in heaven right now and she’s very happy.”
Charly Black recalled that the song had a different title and the melody was changed to make the song more danceable.
“The song wasn’t called Whine and Kotch. I’m the one who gave it that name. The melody that they had wasn’t what the final cut had. I didn’t like how J Capri did the melody and I spoke to her on the phone and she changed it right away. And it worked. She was a very easy-going, fun girl,” said Charly Black.
Whine and Kotch is the second Brit-certified single for Charly Black. His Gyal You a Party Animal was previously certified gold.
Charly Black’s latest singles include On to the Next Best with The Tower Band, which was produced by Good Good Productions, and Slim Dolly, which he shared is dedicated to the slim ladies and produced by DJ Mac, which will be released on February 6.
Artiste J Capri died in December 2015.
