Flow invests in Jamaica’s future through successful graduate programme

Flow is placing young Jamaican talent at the heart of its growth story, as four university graduates from its flagship Graduate Programme officially transition into permanent roles in the company.

Sherice Preddie, financial planning and analysis analyst; Jamar Salmon, junior project manager, for Regional Go To Market, Business-to-Consumer Network Operations; Chelsey Cunningham, retail and partner operations coordinator, Business-To-Consumer Network Operations; and Odane Blidgen, quality assurance specialist, Business-To-Business Network Operations, have successfully completed their two-year rotation in Flow’s Graduate Programme and are now full-time employees, reporting both in the Jamaica office as well as in regional capacities.

“Their achievements highlight Flow and its parent company, Liberty Caribbean’s long-term commitment to developing local talent and building future leaders across the region,“ the utility said in a news release.

Launched in 2022, the Graduate Programme was designed to do more than offer entry-level jobs. Its purpose is to create a strong pipeline of young, locally-rooted professionals, who can grow into senior roles across the company’s offices in the Caribbean and Central America.

“Our graduate programme is about investing in people early and giving them the exposure, skills and confidence to lead. Seeing our Jamaican graduates complete the programme and step into permanent roles is exactly the outcome we envisioned,” shared Darron Turnquest, director, Flow’s People Team.

The programme spans two years, during which graduates rotate into a new role every six months. This structure allows the participants to gain extensive, hands-on experience while working on real world business challenges. The graduates are exposed to Flow’s operations, culture and leadership, while also benefiting from mentorship, professional development workshops and involvement in key projects.

Over the two years, the graduates developed technical expertise and a deep understanding of how Flow delivers innovative and customer-focused telecoms services. Now working in various departments, they are contributing directly to areas that are important to the company and Jamaica’s digital future.

For Cunningham, the experience was life-changing. “Flow’s Graduate Programme is a powerful example of what can be achieved when young people like myself are given meaningful work, strong support and opportunities to grow and adapt,” she shared.

Over the course of the programme, she rotated through several departments, starting in Business-to-Business Network Operations, then leading projects in the Business-to-Consumer unit, and later contributing to the Digital Transformation unit. Today, she’s a permanent member of the Flow team, working in retail operations and credits the programme with expanding her professional agility.

With the continuation of the graduate programme, Flow has already moved into selecting the new batch. Recent entrant to the programme, Halle Francis is now working in the company’s Business-To-Consumer Operations Network under the Fixed Mobile Convergence team and says she is looking forward to a rewarding and fulfilling experience.

“As Flow continues recruiting its next cohort of graduates, we are reinforcing the message to young Jamaicans that world-class career opportunities can begin at home, with a company committed to nurturing talent and shaping future leaders,” said Turnquest.

“With each graduating cohort, we are not only strengthening our workforce but also contributing to Jamaica’s wider development.”

People interested in applying for the programme must be a graduate of a university or college within the last three years of the posting date, have less than three years of full-time work experience and a strong interest in development in the Caribbean.
