Jamaica U-17 boys start push for World Cup qualification
Jamaica’s Under-17 Boys will start their final push for a place in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup later this year in Qatar when they take on Aruba in their opening Concacaf Qualifying Group G game in Alajuela, Costa Rica, today, starting at 12:00 pm local time.
Jamaica has been drawn alongside Aruba, Cayman Islands and Canada, with the winners of the group joining seven other group winners that will qualify for the World Cup to be held in Qatar in November.
This is is the first of four consecutive years, up to 2029, when there will be a FIFA World Boys’ Under-17 Championships in the Asian country.
Thirty-four teams from Concacaf are taking part in the final round qualifying that started on Tuesday.
The teams have been separated into eight groups where they will play each other once with the winners advancing.
Jamaica will next play Cayman Islands on Sunday and then Canada next Wednesday, February 11.
Twelve local-based players are included in the 21-member squad that is being coached by veteran Wendell Downswell.
