May Day High student dies after being struck by reversing bus
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A May Day High School student succumbed to injuries she sustained after being struck by a reversing Toyota Coaster bus on the May Day main road in Manchester on Friday.
Police identified the 14-year-old student as Lakeea Thompson, a resident of Woodlawn Road in Manchester.
A police report said the Coaster bus stopped to pick up students. Police said the vehicle moved forward, then reversed when it hit Thompson, who was walking behind the bus.
The teenager was rushed to the Mandeville Regional Hospital where she died while being treated.
The 45-year-old bus driver has been warned for causing death by dangerous driving. The Mandeville Traffic Department and the Area Three Accident Investigation and Reconstruction Unit are probing the incident.
