Road rehabilitation works to begin in Swallowfield community next week
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) will begin rehabilitation works along Swallowfield Road in St Andrew on Monday.
According to Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, Swallowfield Road is one of three corridors in the Swallowfield community slated for improvement under the Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network (SPARK) Programme. The works, which are valued at $40 million, will also include East Avenue and North Avenue.
Shaw said the rehabilitation of Swallowfield Road is expected to be completed within seven days.
During the period of construction, the entrance to the Island Traffic Authority Examination Depot on Swallowfield Road will be temporarily relocated to East Avenue.
The multimillion-dollar project will also involve the replacement of defective waterlines along Swallowfield Road.
To facilitate the works, a temporary traffic detour will be implemented. Motorists travelling north along Old Hope Road will be redirected onto North Avenue, then right onto Arthur Wint Drive, and right again onto Central Avenue.
Motorists are advised to anticipate slight delays while the works are underway and are urged to obey all posted warning signs and follow the instructions of flag persons operating in the area.
