KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man was shot dead, and a firearm was seized during a targeted police operation at Balkan Avenue in Bayshore Park, Harbour View, Kingston 17, on Saturday morning.

Police believe the dead man to be 37-year-old Troy Flannigan, otherwise called ‘Junglist’, from Balkan Avenue.

Reports reaching Observer Online are that  around 5:18 am, the police entered the residence and approached a bedroom where the now-deceased was seen with a firearm.

The suspect reportedly pointed the weapon and opened fire at the police, who returned fire. It was reported that the man advanced towards the cops and continued firing, but eventually fell to the ground.

The firearm, a Smith and Wesson Springfield pistol with a magazine containing five .45 rounds, was taken from him. He was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has since launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
