Kelly Ann Beckford sets meet record
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Kelly Ann Beckford set a meet and facility record in the Women’s 800m Invitational at Saturday’s second day of the Penn Classic at the Ott Centre in Philadelphia.
A week after setting a national record in the indoor 600m, Beckford ran 2:01.83 minutes to win the event, breaking two records in the process.
Her time broke the Ott Center record of 2:03.16 minutes set by Nia Akins and the meet record of 2:03.34 minutes set by Janna Segrave. Both records were set last year.
World Championships and Olympic Games finalist Ackelia Smith won the women’s long jump at the Woo Pig Classic at the University of Arkansas with a mark of 6.60m.
National record holder Nickisha Pryce ran a season’s best 51.61 seconds in the Women’s 400m, behind a world leading 50.51 seconds by training partner Amber Anning, and 51.46 seconds by Britton Wilson.
Former Ferncourt High and Hydel High runner Abigail Campbell, now of the University of Arkansas ran 54.50 seconds.
Demisha Roswell won the women’s 60m hurdles at the Charlie Thomas Invitational at Texas A&M University, running 8.09 seconds in the final. She had broken the meet record of 8.04 seconds in the prelims, where she had run 8.02 seconds, beating the former record holder Jaiya Covington on both occasions.
Machaeda Linton of Texas A&M was third in the women’s triple jump with 12.41m a day after she finished second in the long jump.
At the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, Christopher Young of the University of Alabama finished third in the men’s shot put with 17.61m.
Shaemar Uter of Texas Tech University was also third in the men’s 400m running 45.54 seconds.
Former Hydel High athlete, Zion Bennett set a Wofford College men’s indoor 400m record when he ran 47.69 seconds at the VMI Winter Relays.
Annishka McDonald of West Virginia was second in the women’s high jump at the Sykes & Sabock Invitational at Penn State University after clearing 1.78m.
Former St Elizabeth Technical sprinter Jasauna Dennis of the University of South Carolina was second in the men’s 200m at the Carolina Challenge Meet, running 21.15 seconds.
Shakiel Dacres of East Carolina was third in the men’s shot put throwing 16.61m.
