Orville Sutherland’s The Gospel Breaking Barriers set for Feb 28
The roof of Garlands New Testament Church in St James was blown off by the winds of Hurricane Melissa last October. When gospel recording artiste Orville Sutherland became aware of the damage he jumped into action.
He decided to direct part proceeds from the staging of his annual gospel event, The Gospel Breaking Barriers, towards assisting with restoring the roof of the church.
“The damage is really bad. Having lost the roof, it has become a great inconvenience and I decided to assist,” Sutherland told the Jamaica Observer on Thursday.
The Gospel Breaking Barriers – Liberty Edition will take place on February 28 at May Pen New Testament Church of God in Clarendon.
Several artistes and ministers are scheduled to be a part of the line-up. Among them are Sister Patt, Johnmark Wiggan, Goddy Goddy, Minister Leon, Minister Tavio, Minister Sadra Lindsay, Minister Bradley Sutherland, and Levy’s Heritage.
This will be the fourth staging of the concert since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Said Sutherland: “We’ve been doing this event under the brand Gospel International, and it has evolved and grown over the years. We have seen such tremendous growth, but with any event in the early years and the developing stage, it was slow. And now we have seen the impact that it has had.”
Sutherland shared with the Observer that it has been challenging getting sponsors to support this year’s staging of the event.
“It really has been challenging getting sponsors on board. Most have been impacted by the hurricane, and several have channelled their funding to recovery efforts. But we are still going full speed ahead,” he explained.
Asked what patrons can expect at the event, Sutherland said: “Come expecting a refresher in terms of being refreshed spiritually. Expect celebration and entertainment. This is a righteous event, so come for good fellowship amongst others.”
Sutherland’s most recent album Liberty was released last November. The 12-track effort features the songs Big God with Prince Saj, Song of the Redeemed featuring Rian Davis, and No Evil.
