Cavalier end JPL slump with 5-0 win over Spanish Town Police
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Defending champions Cavalier SC ended a four-game losing skid in style after beating last placed Spanish Town Police FC 5-0 in their second round Jamaica Premier League game at Stadium East on Monday.
The win saw Cavalier SC back into the top six on 29 points, pushing Arnett Gardens into seventh place on goal-difference, both from 21 games played.
All five goals came in the second half with the opening goal from Jerome McLeary in the 52nd minute, ending a goal drought of 329 minutes.
Cavalier SC had failed to score in their last three games and the previous goal had come in the 82nd minute of a 2-1 loss to Tivoli Gardens on January 24.
McLeary’s goal came minutes after a goal from Spanish Town Police FC was ruled out by referee Oshane Nation.
The goal opened the flood gates as four other goals came in quick succession in a 33- minute span; Jeovani Laing made the scores 2-0 in the 56th minute, Christopher Ainsworth scored in the 63rd minute with the other two goals coming from substitutes- Chad James in the 68th minute and Damarley Williams in the 89th minute.
