Ralford Mullings included on Bowerman awards watch list
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Jamaica’s men’s discus throw national record holder Ralford Mullings of the University of Oklahoma has been included on the Bowerman watch list that was announced last weekend by the Bowerman Watch List Committee.
Mullings, who set the national record of 72.01m in mid-August last year at the Oklahoma Throws Series held at Ramona, Oklahoma, after he won the Jamaican national senior championships, is one of two throwers on the list of 10 athletes who were listed.
The Bowerman Award is given to the most outstanding athletes, male and female, at the end of the US college season.
Jaydon Hibbert, then of the University of Arkansas, won the men’s Bowerman in 2023, the only Jamaican to win the award.
Mullings won the NCAA Division 1 title last year, throwing 69.31m in the final held at Hayward Field, Oregon, after only placing seventh in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships held in Kentucky in May.
He, however, failed to get past the first round of the men’s discus throw at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, throwing 56.82 m in the preliminaries, his shortest throw of the year.
