Rotary Club of New Kingston donates heart machine to Constant Spring Primary
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Staff and students of Constant Spring Primary School are now better equipped to respond to cardiac emergencies, thanks to the donation of an automated external defibrillator (AED) by the Rotary Club of New Kingston.
The device was officially handed over during a brief ceremony held recently on the school grounds.
The initiative forms part of Rotary International District 7020’s 2025–2026 focus on heart health, with particular attention to raising awareness about cardiovascular disease and strengthening emergency response across communities.
The effort, championed by District Governor Professor William Aiken, seeks to improve public preparedness and potentially save lives through practical action.
The donation marks an important step in enhancing the safety of both students and staff at Constant Spring Primary School and reflects Rotary’s enduring commitment to Service Above Self.
In addition to installing the AED unit, 11 teachers successfully completed CPR and AED training and were presented with certificates during the ceremony, significantly strengthening the school’s capacity to respond in a medical emergency.
“Preparedness saves lives,” said Rotary Club of New Kingston President Alex Robinson. “By providing both the equipment and the training, we are helping to build a culture of readiness and confidence within the school community.”
A representative from the Heart Foundation of Jamaica conducted a live demonstration of the AED, giving staff a practical understanding of how the device should be used in the event of a cardiac emergency.
