KC set the pace in U-14 and U-16 schoolboy competitions

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Defending Burger King Under-14 champion Kingston College (KC) are through to the quarterfinals and are joined by Campion College and Jamaica College following Monday’s set of games.

In the Mighty Malt Under-16 competition, KC, Mona High School, St George’s College and St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) have booked their quarterfinal spots.

In Under-14 action, KC, the all-island champion, had an away 1-0 win over Vauxhall High and led Group 2 with a maximum of six points. They had defeated Waterford High 13-0 last week and booked their spot in the next round.

Hillel High are second in the group on four points following their 1-1 draw with Calabar High, who are on one point with one set of games to be played on Thursday. Both schools will be fighting to join KC in the quarterfinals. Hillel will meet KC while Calabar faces Vauxhall High.

Wolmer’s Boys registered the biggest win of the round, hammering Greater Portmore High and leading Group One with four points. They had drawn 1-1 with Eltham High last week, who also moved to four points with a 1-0 win over Holy Trinity High.

In Group 3, Excelsior High whipped Jose Marti High 3-0 to be on six points but not yet safely through, as both St Catherine High and STATHS are on three points, with STATHS winning their clash 2-1.

In Group 4, Campion College and Jamaica College are through from Group D with six points. Campion College beat Dunoon Park Technical 3-0, and Jamaica College whipped Camperdown 4-0.

Meanwhile, in the Under-16, KC registered the biggest win of the round, pounding Greater Portmore 7-0 and leading Group 2 with six points, while securing their spot in the next round. Mona High are also through with six points after brushing aside Waterford High 4-1.

In Group 3, St George’s College (STGC) edged Wolmer’s Boys 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller at Mico Teachers’ College. STGC lead the group with six points and are through to the next round.

Wolmer’s Boys are second on three points with St Jago and Hillel Academy on a point each after battling to a 0-0 draw. Wolmer’s Boys will face Hillel on Thursday, while St Jago take on STGC.

In Group 1, defending Under-16 champion STATHS beat Haile Selassie High 4-1 and qualified for the quarterfinal, sitting on six points. Excelsior moved into the second spot on four points with a 0-0 draw with St Catherine High, who are on a point.

Calabar edged Jamaica College 1-0 and jumped to the top of group four with six points but are not safe, as they will face third-placed Eltham High on three points on Thursday. Eltham had defeated Jose Marti High 2-1. JC on three points will meet Jose Marti in the final set of games, and they can surpass Calabar on goal difference if Calabar lose to Eltham.

The stage is set for some intriguing games on Thursday as five spots are up for grabs in the Under-14s and four in the Under-16s.
