Shock as ‘humble’ party promoter/taxi operator killed in St Mary
ST MARY, Jamaica — A pall of gloom hangs over the parish of St Mary following Monday night’s killing of a man popularly known for his work as a taxi operator and party operator.
The body of 32-year-old Kemoy Findlay, otherwise called “Turbo” or “Walking Bank” of Highgate, St Mary, was found with gunshot wounds along the Rosend main road in the parish.
Police sources told Observer Online that it is believed Findlay was killed by persons posing as passengers, as his motor vehicle was reportedly stolen from him. It was later found abandoned along the Annotto Bay main road, also in the parish.
Reports are that about 9:30 pm, a resident alerted the police about the body of a male lying along the roadway.
The police responded and, on their arrival, Findlay was found lying face down, suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
He was assisted to the Annotto Bay Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Since news emerged of Findlay’s passing, emotions have been running high on social media, with many people expressing shock and anger.
Known especially for his chartering services, some individuals have been left wondering who they will contact while stranded, especially those who are employed on the night shift.
“Yes, he (Findlay) started selling DVDs and then bought a taxi, elevate himself from round robin(s) to having his yearly dance, ‘Walking Bank’. He was humble and have manners,” an individual shared.
“Any hours you call Turbo (Findlay) him will come for you if you stranded. Ochi (Ocho Rios) mi work. This cut me up,” a woman shared on Facebook.
Another man commented on Facebook: “So you couldn’t rob him and leave him alive…!!! But trust and believe you (the killers) ago get find! ‘Cause somebody somewhere must see something!!!”
On Tiktok, the grief was evident for the St Mary native.
“This youth nuh deserve this mi nah lie… so so humble. The innocent blood never dies… Mighty God,” a woman commented.
Shared another: “RIP Turbo, from DVD to CD, you hustle honestly and buy you car and look what they did? A justice we say; dem (the killers) will be found.”
Another TikTok user said: “This mash up me medz. Me couldn’t sleep from me hear the news. Me feel it to mi core. RIP Turbo. Jah Jah it rough.”
“Turbo why? You don’t deserve this. Last week you give me a drive ’cause you know me never have it. Who me ago rely on late at nights? Yo a can’t even write RIP,” another said.
