Cop among two arrested after M-16 seizure on Port Henderson Road
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Two men, including a police constable, have been arrested following the seizure of an M-16 rifle and a handgun during an operation on Port Henderson Road in Portmore, St Catherine on Monday.
The two men are a 21-year-old constable and a 19-year-old, both of St Catherine addresses.
Reports indicate that a police patrol on duty in the area observed a Toyota Probox motor vehicle travelling at an excessive speed in the direction of Kingston.
The officers initiated a traffic stop, and the driver complied.
A search of the vehicle was conducted, during which one Taurus G3 9mm pistol and a magazine containing fifteen rounds of 9mm ammunition were allegedly found in the pocket of the driver’s door.
Additionally, police say, a firearm box containing fifty rounds of 9mm cartridges was discovered behind the driver’s seat.
The Caribbean Search Centre was subsequently summoned, and a more extensive search of the vehicle was carried out on Tuesday, resulting in the discovery and seizure of an M16 rifle along with a quantity of ammunition.
The items were seized, and the men were taken into custody.
