Dinthill Tech celebrates main greenhouse back in service
After suffering damage from the passage of Hurricane Beryl in 2024 and later in Hurricane Melissa in late October 2025 Dinthill Technical High School had its main greenhouse refurbished by alumni.
The greenhouse is used for tutorial and practical experiences for teaching and learning, as well as for commercial crops at the Linstead, St Catherine-based school.
“Putting the greenhouse back in service will enhance the practical experience for teachers and students and will help the school generate income from greenhouse crops,” said Principal Anthony Garwood.
Dinthill Technical High School Alumni Association of Florida (DTHSAAF), in a press release, stated that based on the importance of the school’s agricultural programme it had to pitch in to rectify the situation.
Vice-President and project lead Clayton Todd said: “We exist to enhance the student experience at the school and voted to fast-track this project following Hurricane Melissa’s passage.”
The cost of the project was approximately US$6,000.
“We plan to address greenhouse #2 [with funds to be raised] at our Spring Ball, which will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in Coral Springs, Florida,” said Todd.
Dinthill Technical High School was founded in 1938 as a vocational training centre, focusing on agriculture and trades for young men, and has evolved as a technical high school for both genders.
