75-y-o pedal cyclist killed in Hanover crash
HANOVER, Jamaica — A 75-year-old man has become the 33rd road fatality since the start of the year, after he succumbed to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision in the parish capital on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Keith Campbell of Cousins Cove, Hanover.
Reports are that about 7:20 am, Campbell was riding a pedal cycle along Watson Taylor Drive when he was involved in a collision with a Toyota Coaster in the vicinity of the Lucea library. He sustained serious injuries and later died.
Personnel from the Hanover Police Traffic Division are investigating the incident.
Campbell’s death has brought the island’s road fatality tally to 33 since the beginning of the year, nine fewer than the 42 recorded for the corresponding period last year.
According to data from the Island Traffic Authority, 14 of the 33 road fatalities recorded so far this year involve vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, motorcyclists, and pedal cyclists.
