Dane Dawkins sets sights on jockeys’ championship
Jockey Dane Dawkins is aiming high this year, and his impressive five-race win haul on Saturday, February 7, 2026 is just the beginning.
The talented rider, who won aboard The General, Sensational Soul, and Lexi Lou for trainer Gary Subratie, and Feeling Free and Lucy on the Go for trainer Peter-John Parsard, is gunning for the jockeys’ championship.
“It’s a wonderful feeling,” Dawkins said, beaming with pride.
“First time I am winning races in one day. I have always won four races and cannot make the five but I made it this with the help of God,” Dawkins told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
Dawkins’ win streak is evidence to his hard work and dedication, which he credits to getting back to basics.
“I started the year wasn’t doing much training and so I heard a lot of talking about stuffs and I said ‘okay’ let’s do some training and see what can play out,” he explained.
“One week of training, I won five races and so you can imagine what will take place further on,” he added.
With his sights set on the championship, Dawkins is committed to staying in Jamaica and giving it his all.
“I am not going overseas. I will be in Jamaica right through this year,” the former champion rider declared. “It is going to take hard work and dedication, as usual, and hope God goes with me all the way.”
