Subratie ecstatic after Lexi Lou’s Eight Thirty Sprint win completes triple
Trainer Gary Subratie and jockey Dane Dawkins savoured a triumphant moment at Caymanas Park after Lexi Lou romped the Eight Thirty Sprint, completing a three-winner haul for the trainer and a five-timer for the jockey.
The $1.05-million Maiden Special Weight contest for native-bred three-year-old fillies officially kicked off the Classic campaign and Lexi Lou made a signature announcement.
The bay filly made one move to win the 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight race by 2 ½ lengths in a fast 59.2 (24.1 x 47.0). Another Wow (Shane Ellis) finished second and Another Quality (Raddesh Roman) took the third slot.
Subratie beamed with pride after his triple.
“I am feeling ecstatic. I am glad for the triple, I haven’t won three races in a couple of months and so I am really happy,” Subratie told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
Subratie then commented on the potential of Lexi Lou.
“I liked this horse since I first saw her. She is getting better, she is still a baby, she is a June foal, and so she is only going to get better. We are going to look at the Hotline Stakes and then we will see if we are going into that race or not,” Subratie shared.
Subratie’s other winners on the day were The General in the opening event and Sensational Soul in the next race. Both horses were ridden by Dawkins.
The trainer-jockey duo credited their success to their strong partnership.
“We have always been in good nick together. He [Dane Dawkins] understands me and I understand him. He works most of my horses in the mornings; he knows most of my horses. The programme is there, we are doing well together, and we are going to stick together,” Subratie explained.
