Urban Under-16 football quarterfinalists decided, two spots up for grabs in Under-14

The quarterfinalists in the Mighty Malt Under-16 urban football competition have been decided, while two spots are up for grabs in the Burger King Under-14, following Thursday’s set of games.

In the Under-16, defending champions St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) are paired with St George’s College, Mona High and Eltham High in Group A while Group B will consist of Kingston College, Jamaica College, Excelsior High and Wolmer’s Boys.

STATHS drew 3-3 with Excelsior in a repeat of the 2024 final and topped Group 1 with seven points to Excelsior’s five. St Catherine just missed out after edging Haile Selassie 4-3 and finished third on four points. Haile Selassie were pointless.

In Group 2, high-riding Kingston College ended Mona High’s unbeaten run, whipping them 6-2 and finishing with nine points. Mona were second on six points while Greater Portmore finished third on three points after beating Waterford High 2-1.

Jamaica College trounced Jose Marti 5-0 and topped Group 4 on goal difference ahead of Eltham which defeated Calabar 2-0.
Calabar started the day on top with six points but slipped to third behind JC and Eltham who had better goal differences.

St George’s College edged St Jago High 1-0 and finished top of Group 3 with nine points. Wolmer’s Boys joined them in the quarterfinal after beating Hillel Academy 3-0 to be on six points.

In Under-14, defending all-island champion KC defeated high-riding Hillel Academy 2-0 and won Group 2 with nine points. Hillel survived a scare and qualified with four points but just ahead of Calabar on goal difference as both finished on four points. Calabar had defeated Vauxhall 5-1.

KC are yet to concede a goal, scoring 57 goals from nine games, and will play in Group B alongside Jamaica College, STATHS and the runner-up from Group 1, which could be Eltham High or Wolmer’s Boys.

Group A will consist of Excelsior High, Hillel, Campion College and either Wolmer’s or Eltham High.

In Thursday’s games, STATHS beat Jose Marti 4-1, Eltham beat Greater Portmore 7-0, Dunoon Park Technical and Camperdown battled to a 0-0 draw, as did Wolmer’s Boys and Holy Trinity High. JC beat Campion College 1-0 and Excelsior edged St Catherine 1-0.

The quarterfinal games will begin on Monday.
