Senior citizens tournament a resounding success, says domino boss
Humbert Davis, president of the National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB), said that the regional level of the NADB/National Council of Senior Citizens (NCSC) domino tournament was a resounding success.
The domino boss said that the event, which brought together talented players from across the region, exceeded expectations and achieved every goal set out by the organisers.
“It was truly a huge success, every goal that we set out to achieve was met and exceeded,” Davis said, his voice filled with enthusiasm.
“The tournament was more than just a competition — it was a celebration of community, camaraderie, and the indomitable spirit of the senior citizens who participated,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
Trelawny won Region One of the tournament after beating Westmoreland 7-2. Finishing third was St James, who got by fourth place St Ann 5-1. The tournament was played at Drax Hall in St Ann, on Thursday.
Trelawny now joins St Elizabeth (Region Two) and St Thomas (Region Three) as the regional winners.
As Davis recounted the tournament’s highlights, it was clear that this was an event that had brought people together, fostering social connections and promoting healthy competition.
“It was a catalyst for bringing out the men and improving health. We wanted to encourage our senior citizens to engage in an activity that would keep them mentally and physically active, and I believe we achieved that in spades,” explained Davis, a former player of the game.
Many of the participants had commented on the sense of purpose and belonging they felt as a result of taking part, and Davis was thrilled to see so many familiar faces, as well as some newcomers, all united by their love of the game.
“It’s wonderful to see people coming together like this. The energy and camaraderie were palpable, and it’s clear that this tournament has become an important event in the calendar. We’re already looking forward to the next one. This is just the beginning, and I believe we can build on this success to create an even bigger and better event in the future,” Davis ended.
