Money Market the big winner in Reggae Month Trophy
MONEY Market, under a well-timed ride from jockey Dane Dawkins, got up in the nick of time to beat rivals in the fourth running of the $1.4-million Reggae Month Trophy feature race at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Trained by Gary Subratie, Money Market defeated Mighty Gully (Tajay Suckoo) and Of a Revolution (Raddesh Roman) by a length and a half in the Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds ad upward over five furlongs (1,000m) straight.
Money Market was held off the pace, allowing Zulu Warrior (Demar Williams), Mighty Gully, and
Mack and Rome (Emelio McLean) to battle for the lead. However, when all seemed lost inside the final stages of the race, Dawkins’ timely urging propelled Money Market to the front . The winning time was 57.2 (23.2 x 45.1).
Trainer Anthony Nunes and jockey Robert Halledeen both won two races on the 10-race card. Nunes saddled Amazing Force (Ian Spence) in the second race and Uncaptured Empress (Tajay Suckoo) in the fourth race.
Halledeen was successful aboard London Spirit in the first race for trainer Jason DaCosta and Whizz Kidd in the tenth and final race for trainer Alford Brown.
Racing continues on Wednesday.
