Tonie-Ann Forbes lowers 60m hurdles personal best
Tonie-Ann Forbes of Texas Tech University set a personal best 8.03 seconds as she won the women’s 60m hurdles at last weekend’s Jarvis Scott Invite held in Lubbock, Texas.
Forbes, formerly of Edwin Allen High, led the qualifying with 8.16 seconds before lowering her best from 8.08 seconds set earlier this year and broke into the TTU top 10, tied with fellow Jamaican Demisha Roswell.
Daniel Clarke, also of TTU, was third in the men’s 60m hurdles with a personal best 7.78 seconds.
Kobe Lawrence retook his University of Oregon men’s shot put record when he threw a personal best 20.16m to beat the 19.82m set by Ben Smith earlier in the month.
Brittanie Johnson of Purdue University had two personal best performances on Saturday’s second day of the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson, winning the women’s weight throw with 21.67, beating her previous 20.75m to move up to second best in the school’s history. She was seventh in the women’s Shot Put Invite with 16.08m, fourth all time at Purdue and beating her previous best of 15.57m.
Kimeka Smith of Clemson was fifth with a personal best 6.29m, fourth best at Clemson and surpassing her previous best of 16.06m.
Shantae Foreman of Clemson was second in the women’s triple jump with 13.61m.
World Championships semi-finalist Tyrice Taylor of the University of Arkansas opened his season by winning the men’s 800m at the Tyson Invitational, running 1:46.11 to finish ahead of teammate and compatriot Rivaldo Marshall-1:46.30.
Rhianna Phipps of the University of Nebraska was third in the women’s triple jump with a season’s best 13.33m.
At the Norfolk State Indoor Pre-Nationals meet, Damali Williams of Hampton University won the women’s weight throw with a personal best 17.50m and her teammate Rochele Solmon won the women’s shot put with a season’s best 15.22m.
Shakiel Dacres moved up one spot to fifth all time on the East Carolina all-time list when he won the men’s shot put with a personal best 16.96m.
Former Cornwall College ISSA Champs finalist Lansford Cunningham reset the Tusculum University men’s long jump record when he placed second at the VMI Winter Classic with 7.55m.
Cunningham, who had fouled out of a meet last weekend, fouled his first two attempts on Saturday before beating his previous best 7.42m with his new mark. He was also third in the men’s 60m with a new personal best of 6.91 seconds in the final, lowering his life time best in the short sprint for the second time in the day after he ran 9.69 seconds in the prelims.
