JTA dismisses ‘fake’ media release claiming 50% salary increase for teachers
KINGSTON, Jamaica—The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) has dismissed as false a media release being circulated in the public domain claiming a 50 per cent salary increase and that immediate incremental payments have been agreed for all teachers.
“This information is false and does not represent any official communication or position of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association. Although the document bears the JTA logo, it is fraudulent and did not originate from the Association. The JTA strongly condemns the actions of those responsible for creating and distributing this misleading correspondence,” the association said in a media release.
“Please exercise caution and refrain from sharing unverified information. Negotiations with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service is ongoing. The president of the JTA will in due course update the membership using the appropriate channels,” it added.
JTA also sought to remind members of the public that all legitimate JTA communications are shared only through verified channels and must clearly identify an authorised officer or responsible owner of the correspondence. It said that, where applicable, official documents may also include proper signatures and other established protocols.
