Vision 2030 Jamaica Secretariat launches final medium-term policy framework
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Vision 2030 Jamaica Secretariat has launched the process to develop the final of seven planned Medium‑Term Socio‑Economic Policy Frameworks (MTFs).
MTF 2027–2030 was launched during the Vision 2030 Jamaica ‘Love Jamaica Fest’, held at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston on Friday.
Programme director for the secretariat, housed at the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), Peisha Bryan‑Lee, explained that the MTF serves as the primary mechanism for implementing Vision 2030 Jamaica.
“It presents government policy. By that, I mean, what Government is prioritising, in terms of where we’re putting budget and programmes, and the environment that we’re creating for the private sector and civil society to advance development. This (MTF 2027–2030) is the one that takes us to 2030,” she said.
Bryan‑Lee stated that a broader approach will be taken in developing this MTF.
“Last year, we launched our comprehensive evaluation. We had some setbacks because of Hurricane Melissa and some other factors. What we’re also doing is… combining the process of looking forward in developing this MTF. So, for all those persons who keep asking what comes next, the fact is, the development continues all the time,” she explained.
Bryan-Lee advised that the working theme is ‘Resilient Growth, Global Competitiveness, Anchored in Stability, Productivity, Participation and Strong Institutions’.
For his part, PIOJ Director General, Dr Wayne Henry, underscored that the MTF is a policy framework which signals to stakeholders the Government’s medium‑term priorities, while highlighting areas where an enabling environment exists or is being developed to transform public policy into public good.
“As we enter the homestretch of Vision 2030 Jamaica, we are also looking beyond the horizon. The successes and lessons learned from the implementation of Vision 2030 Jamaica will be used to inform the national development planning agenda for the post-2030 era,” Dr Henry said.
