Jamaica 14th in women’s monobob; two-man team 23rd after two runs
JAMAICA’S Mica Moore finished 14th in the women’s monobob at the Eugenio Monti Sliding Center in Cortina d’Ampezzo on Monday, as the country’s campaign at the 25th Winter Olympiad continued.
The 33-year-old Wales-born athlete entered the final two runs in 15th place after Sunday’s opening rounds. She improved her times on Monday and posted a total of 4:01.31 minutes. She had finished inside the top 20 to qualify for the fourth run.
Moore recorded 1:00.41 in the third run for 15th place, then produced her best time of 59.92 seconds in the fourth to move up one spot. On Sunday she clocked 1:00.55 and 1:00.43.
American Elana Meyers Taylor won gold in the event in 3:57.93, finishing 0.04 seconds ahead of Germany’s Laura Nolte.
Today, Jamaica’s two-man team of Shane Pitter and Junior Harris sit 23rd out of 26 teams after two runs and must climb the standings to reach the fourth run.
Also on Monday, 18-year-old Henri Rivers IV did not finish the men’s slalom in Alpine skiing at the Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio. More than 50 skiers failed to complete the race.
