St Andrew man sentenced to life in prison for illegal gun, ammo possession
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A St Andrew man arrested and charged in 2023 for breaches of the Firearms Act has been sentenced to life imprisonment. He received the sentence when he appeared before the Gun Court on Friday, February 13.
The convicted man, Iyan Guzmore of Cedar Valley, Red Hills, St Andrew, was taken into custody following a police operation in the Cyprus Hall area of Red Hills on November 14, 2023.
During the operation, cops searched a premises occupied by Guzmore and discovered a .38 revolver along with two .38 cartridges hidden in the ceiling of the home.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
Following a trial, Guzmore was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment for unauthorised possession of ammunition. He will be eligible for parole after serving 15 years.
He also received a sentence of 19 years and nine months for possession of a prohibited weapon, with eligibility for parole after 10 years.
The sentences are to run concurrently.
