Humble Lion extend good start in JFF Championship, Roaring River and Falmouth clash ends in chaos
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – Humble Lion FC continued their strong start in the Jamaica Football Championship as they blanked St Bess United FC 3-0 in Zone B at Munro College on Wednesday.
Nathaniel Henry scored a hat-trick to lead the former Jamaica Premier League contenders to back-to-back wins, leaving them on seven points, two more than fellow newcomers Roaring River FC who had a contentious 2-1 win over Falmouth United at the Trelawny stadium.
Sakka Club Browns Town Academy were also 3-0 winners, beating WiFi United to join fellow St Ann Club Lime Hall on six points at the top of Zone A.
At Munro, Henry scored in the 36th, 74th and 76th minutes for Humble Lion who have scored nine goals in their three games played so far.
Roaring River had their first win after back-to-back draws to open their season, as their game against Falmouth United ended in chaos with the home team finishing the match with nine players while another player was shown another red card after the final whistle.
After both teams were denied by last ditched goal-line saves, Roaring River took the lead in the 63rd minute when Falmouth’s goalkeeper Daniel Gilpin allowed a tame header from Kajaye Williams to beat his late dive. Falmouth drew level in the 80th minute when Ahmal Nugent-Hudson converted a penalty, scoring in his third straight game.
Things started raveling out of control when Falmouth captain Ziddanne Francis and teammate Mark Lewis were sent off within minutes of each other in time added on.
Gilpin then made a second error when he rushed out of his goal and brought down a Roaring River player inside the box in the eighth minute of time added and Jashane Foster converted with the final kick of the game.
The action was not over, however, as a third Falmouth player, Phelan Christie, was shown a red card as he exchanged words with the officials after the game.
STETHS Elite and Reno FC both had their first wins and moved on to four points: STETHS edged Petersfield FC 2-1 while Reno rebounded from a big 5-0 thrashing from Humble Lion to beat Holland PYC 2-0.
Everton Blackwood scored for Reno in the first minute while Malik Graham scored the second in the 21st minute, his second goal of the season.
In Zone A, the Jamaica Defence Force snapped a two-game losing skid to start the season with a 5-0 whipping of Grays Inn SC as Tevin Cheese bagged a hat-trick to lead the way.
