Jamaican model Althea Laing to headline Chic & Champagne
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Fashion enthusiasts are set to converge in Kingston on February 21 for Chic & Champagne, a fashion experience hosted by Let Dian Find It (LDFI) Fashions on South Avenue.
This event will feature Althea Laing, widely regarded as the first Jamaican model to make an impact overseas.
Dian Hamilton, chief executive officer (CEO) of LDFI Fashions and creator of Chic & Champagne, said the show is meant to change the conventional fashion narrative.
“I wanted to create an intimate relaxed space for a community of women to gather, socialise and discover new stories about fashion and style. Althea was the first name I came up with when I conceptualised what the event would look like,” Hamilton explained.
Laing, a St Elizabeth-born former schoolteacher and actress, appeared twice on the cover of Essence magazine.
Her ‘Fireside Chat’ at Chic & Champagne will explore aging gracefully, a concept she approaches with honesty and encouragement.
“As one ages, unless a woman is lucky or blessed with youthful genes, the signs of aging will begin to show,” Laing said. “The key is to dress appropriately at all times.
In 2025, she launched Icon Beauty by La Laing: The line of products includes brightening serum, anti-aging retinol serum, foam cleanser, and lipsticks in diverse shades.
Laing credits confidence and resilience for a fulfilling career.
“There is no doubt that all my life experiences have helped to determine the strong, confident, resilient, ‘never-say- die’ woman that I have become,” she shared.
“I must credit my beloved mother, the late Carmen Gloria Reynolds, who, through her love, imbued me with the moral values, wisdom and courage necessary to navigate this challenging world! So, as I mature, these qualities which she taught me both by example and precept, I still embrace and hold dear.”
