Pitter, Harris end 22nd in two-man bobsled at Milan Cortina
JAMAICA’S two-man bobsleigh team of Shane Pitter and Junior Harris ended their campaign at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games in Italy on Tuesday, finishing 22nd overall after three runs and missing out on a place in the final heat.
Only the top 20 teams advanced to the fourth and deciding run.
Pitter and Harris entered the third heat in 23rd position after opening with times of 56.68 and 56.72 seconds for a combined 1:53.40 minutes. Needing a strong final effort to move into the top 20, the Jamaicans improved their overall mark to 2:49.37 but were unable to climb high enough in the standings to continue.
They finished 4.58 seconds behind the leaders, Germany’s Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhauer, who set the pace across the three heats and remained on course for gold heading into the final run.
Despite not advancing, public reaction to the performance has been positive, with many commenting sentiments of pride on social media.
Trinidad and Tobago’s pairing of Axel Brown and De Aundre John placed 25th in a combined time of 2:51.05 minutes, which was 6.26 seconds behind the Germans.
With the two-man event complete, Pitter and Harris will now turn their attention to the four-man competition, scheduled for February 21. They are set to join teammates Andrae Dacres, Joel Fearon and Tyquendo Tracey as Jamaica looks to regroup and push for a stronger showing in the larger sled event.
It will be Jamaica’s final event in this Olympic campaign.
