Popcaan crowned sub-chief in Ghana, honoured with title ‘Nana Okofo Akro Kese’
Dancehall artiste Popcaan has been crowned a sub-chief in Ghana and conferred with the title “Nana Okofo Akro Kese”.
He received the title during his recent visit to the West African nation.
The entertainer shared photos and videos from the ceremony on Instagram, captioning the post, “Nana is Grateful!!! Love and respect to my people. Together we push #KESE.”
The title loosely translates to “great/mighty warrior chief”.
Popcaan has visited Ghana several times, including in late 2019 during the country’s “Year of the Return” initiative, which encouraged members of the African diaspora to visit.
During that earlier trip, Popcaan visited Cape Coast Castle and laid a wreath in honour of his ancestors who were enslaved and transported to Jamaica and other parts of the world.
In 2025, Popcaan released his fifth studio album, Nothing Without God, a 14-track project reflecting themes of faith, resilience and spiritual growth, completed weeks before Hurricane Melissa impacted western Jamaica.
