Floyd Green goes shopping at ‘Curry’
Agriculture minister special guest on Jamaica Observer’s Market Bag
Agriculture Minister Floyd Green is the special guest on this week’s episode of the Jamaica Observer’s Market Bag, the popular video special that provides consumers with the prices of agricultural produce available in markets across the island.
Green joins host Carlysia Ramdeen at Coronation Market, also called Curry, in downtown Kingston where he highlights some initiatives introduced by the ministry that have contributed to the agriculture sector’s recovery from Hurricane Melissa, which hit sections of the island last October.
This week’s episode found that prices are trending downwards, with tomatoes now selling for as low as $50 per pound, carrots at $100, and cabbage at $150, signalling a strong rebound in local food production.
During his visit to the market, Minister Green praised the resilience and dedication of the country’s farmers for the turnaround.
“What we are seeing is a result of that. A combination of the seeds, a combination of the water, a combination of operations, plus just some excellent farmers, some really strong farmers who were determined to ensure we could feed Jamaica again,” Green said.
The latest edition of Market Bag goes live on YouTube and our social media platforms this Friday at 6:30 pm.
