Davis praises doctors as ‘unsung heroes’ of domino competition
THE atmosphere during the National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB)/National Council for Senior Citizen (NCSC) domino competition continued to be electric, with the air thick with excitement and camaraderie as seniors from across the island gathered to showcase their skills and sportsmanship.
While the competitors stole the spotlight with their impressive displays of strategy and focus, Humbert Davis, president of NADB, was quick to shine a light on the unsung heroes of the event — dedicated doctors who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the well-being of the participants.
“The doctors were the real MVPs. They worked around the clock, conducting blood sugar tests, blood pressure checks, and providing medical support to our seniors. We can’t thank them enough for their selfless efforts,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
Throughout the tournament the medical team was on hand to provide essential services, monitoring the health of the seniors and offering support whenever needed. From early morning check-ins to after-competition consultations, the doctors were always available, earning the gratitude of both the competitors and the organisers.
“It was a huge relief to have the doctors on site,” Davis said.
“Many of our seniors have underlying health conditions, and it’s not always easy for them to participate in events like this, but with the medical team on hand we were able to ensure their safety and well-being — and that’s what made this tournament truly special,” the domino boss added.
Davis praised the spirit of camaraderie and community that defined the event.
“The domino competition is more than just a tournament — it was a celebration of our seniors’ vitality and commitment to healthy living. We’re already looking forward to the national stage of the competition,” he stated.
“Congrats to St Thomas, St Elizabeth, and Trelawny for winning the regional title, and they will now battle for the national prize,” Davis said.
