Police name persons of interest in killing of 3-y-o in Denham Town
KINGSTON, Jamaica—The police have listed two persons of interest in connection to the killing of three-year-old Zaylon Pinnock, who along with his father and another child were attacked by gunmen at their home on Nelson Street Denham Town early Saturday morning.
They have been identified only as ‘Juby’ and ‘Romy’, who are said to be members of the Scream Corner gang. They are being asked to turn themselves over to the Denham Town Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) within 24 hours.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of the Area 4 police division, Michael Phipps, said based on preliminary information, the incident is stemming from a resurgence of gang activities in the Denham town community.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Phipps
“We are at the preliminary stages of our investigations into this shooting incident which resulted in the death of this three-year-old. We are theorising based on our preliminary information that this particular incident is stemming from what we want to refer to at this time as a resurgence of some gang activities within the Denham town community,” ACP Phipps said. He added that gang rivalry for turf remains at the centre of the problem.
Phipps said the Denham town community has been fairly quiet for a long while, through intervention efforts by the police.
“We will be going into the area to try and ascertain exactly what may have transpired but we do know that our early information is suggesting gang rivalry for the control of turf. We will be going into the community to do a number of operational responses and of course the area has been under curfew…established by the Joint Commanders since Thursday of this week,” he noted.
The ACP assured that the police will continue on their drive to stabilise the community and ensure that peace is maintained in the area.
