Reputed Top Maverley gangster killed by police
KINGSTON, Jamaica—A reputed gangster was fatally shot during a police operation along Michael Manley Boulevard, in the vicinity of the Doncaster housing scheme in Kingston, on Friday evening.
He has been identified as 25-year-old Niegiere Dennis, otherwise called ‘Box Head’, of a Pembroke Hall address in Kingston 20. Dennis was believed to be a high-ranking member of the Top Marveley Gang and closely associated with the Jarrett Lane Gang in the Corporate Area.
A Gen 5 pistol along with a magazine containing four 9mm rounds was reportedly recovered by the police in the incident.
Observer Online understands that about 7:28 pm, the police, acting on information about armed men travelling in a white Nissan Serena, intercepted the motor vehicle. The driver reportedly exited the vehicle and lay on the ground while the passenger, said to be Dennis, opened gunfire at the cops.
The police reportedly returned gunfire and, when the shooting subsided, Dennis was found suffering from gunshot wounds while clutching a firearm.
He was subsequently transported to Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Dennis was reportedly arrested on March 16, 2025, on reasonable possession of a firearm and ammunition after an M16 rifle was seized along Saunders Avenue, Mountain View.
He was also reportedly implicated in several murders and shootings within the St Andrew South police division.
