Rivaldo Marshall breaks men’s indoor 800m record
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Rivaldo Marshall broke the Jamaican men’s indoor 800 m record on Friday after he ran 1:45.62 seconds to win the event at the Arkansas Qualifier at the Randal Tyson Track Centre on Friday.
The University of Arkansas senior became the third man to break the Jamaican record in a week after his teammate Tyrice Taylor ran 1:46.11 seconds at the same venue on Saturday only to see World Athletics Championships and outdoor record holder Navasky Anderson run 1:46.10 seconds at a meeting in France on Thursday.
Marshall, who is two weeks older than Taylor, lowered his previous personal best of 1:46.30 seconds that he set last weekend and broke the Arkansas record of 1:45.95 seconds set by Dirk Heinze in 2001, the same year Marshall was born.
Machaeda Linton of Texas A&M University (TAMU) won the women’s long jump with 6.51 m and was second in the triple jump with 12.89 m.
Arkansas freshman and former Ferncourt and Hydel High runner Abigail Campbell ran a personal best of 53.80 seconds in the women’s 400m.
Olympic Games relay medallist Brianna Williams was second in the women’s 60m with 7.27 seconds.
Former Munro College thrower Chad Hendricks of Louisiana State University (LSU) threw a personal best of 15.28 in the men’s throw at the LSU Twilight, while Josh-Ty Brown of Southeast Louisiana won the men’s shot put with 16.01 m.
