Producer Colin Fat passes
Colin Fat, a producer who had a series of hit songs in the 1980s and 1990s, died in Barbican, St Andrew, on February 9.
His spouse, Sharon Gibson, confirmed his death in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
She did not give a cause of death.
Born Colin Walters, Colin Fat was from Barbican. He put that community’s dancehall scene on the map by producing songs such as When I See You Smile by Singing Sweet, Mankind by Capleton, Don’t Get Weary by Louie Culture, and One More Dead by Terror Fabulous.
Colin Fat mentored deejay Round Head early in his career and produced most of the St Thomas-born artiste’s songs including Weed Fi Life and Highest Grade.
“Mi know Colin Fat all mi life, a him start everything. From di first song, Bus Wey to most a mi catalogue,” Round Head told the Observer. “If Round Head have 60 song release a road, 38 to 40 a dem a fi Colin Fat. Colin Fat a mi heartbeat, a mi everything.”
He is survived by his spouse, three children, one grandchild, two sisters, and one brother.
His thanksgiving service is scheduled for March 14 at Barbican Baptist Church.
