Ackeem Blake gets wild card to World Indoor Championships
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former World Athletics Indoor Championships men’s 60m bronze medallist Ackeem Blake has been given a wild card entry to next month’s World Indoor Championships to be held in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland, March 20-22.
Blake, who won the event at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on January 24 and the Millrose Games in New York on February 1, topped the points table with 20 points.
In addition to Jamaica getting a third spot in the men’s 60m at the championships, Blake also won the prize of US$10,000.
Another Jamaican Odaine McPherson was 11th on the list. World Indoor finalist Jordan Scott was third in the men’s triple jump standings and Navasky Anderson, who broke the Jamaican national indoor record in the men’s 800m, finished 16th in his event after competing in two events in Europe last week.
Two-time world champion in the 100m hurdles, Danielle Williams, was third in the women’s 60m hurdles standings with Megan Simmons 12th, while Lamara Distin was eighth in the women’s high jump.
