Race day review for Saturday, February 21, 2026
Featured on the programme of 10 races was the seven-and-a-half-furlong 2026 Supreme Ventures Racing & Entertainment Limited Board Chairman’s Trophy, and naturally, Solomon Sharpe, in his executive capacity, was on hand to interact personally with specially invited guests and others.
The champions of the 2025 Racing Year in Jamaica were presented with their respective awards throughout the afternoon. Up to two decades ago, this recognition came at an annual black-tie affair hosted at one of the major hotels, but resources are scarcer these days.
Staged as race eight, US-bred Pack Plays (8-5) was presented in invincible form by conditioner Rowan R Mathie. The five-year-old bay/brown horse dominated the early fractions, was always clear, with 2019 champion jockey Christopher Mamdeen executing the riding honours for a victory margin of more than seven lengths, easing down.
Twelve three-year-old maiden fillies sprinted over the five and a half furlongs of race one, and we may have seen a smart Successful Native foal in the form of Robert Pearson’s debutant Charming Chaterbox (3-5) in the line-up as we get closer to the 2026 main Futurities.
With Tevin Foster at the reins for the opener of his riding double, Charming Chaterbox won by a conservative 11 lengths and was on the bridle and hard-held to the top of the two-furlong home stretch.
Foster’s, whose 132-win total in 2024 was one short of sharing the riding title with Raddesh Roman, had his second on the day confirmed, with Eazy Peazy (7-2), entered by second-generation trainer Ryan Darby, a near two-length winner over the six-furlong gallop of race two.
In race three, Four Thirty (USA), bet at 3-5 from the camp of Gary Subratie, and partnered by 2022 champion Dane Dawkins, cantered home by nearly six lengths over the seven and a half furlongs.
Then in race four, the strong run of Anthony Nunes’ King Piye (5-2) over the final two furlongs of seven, wore down 2/1 bet Blu Sensation by a half a length with athletic claimer Anthony Allen in the irons.
Former three-time champion Anthony Thomas, on a break from riding engagements at Gulfstream Park in Miami, Florida, USA, rode Tappinin (3-5) over the five furlongs round of race five to score by one length and a quarter for long-serving trainer Barrington Dawes.
In race six, half an hour later, veteran reinsman Everton Miller had a rare success in scoring with four-year-old maiden debutant Treasure Isles (3-1). The filly led early and stayed on well over the seven furlongs for former jockey now trainer Fernando Geddes first success of the season.
Following Geddes, another jockey-turned-trainer, Patrick Lynch, was in the winners’ enclosure after his 3-5 favourite Belleza Gris (Paul Francis) came home two and a half lengths clear of her nearest rival. This was at the end of the five-furlong straight gallop of race seven.
Prince Amaan (4-5), ridden by Robert Halledeen for the champion trainer Jason DaCosta, was all out to land the ninth event, over the straight course. It was virtually a match between Prince Amaan and 5-2 chance Emperorofthecats with Roman, now a two-time champion (2024-25), aboard. Winner
Prince Amaan was the marginal leader entering the final furlong and had the momentum to win by a half-length.
In the closing event, yet another five-straight call, champion apprentice Demar Williams, brought home
Alkebulan (7-2) just under six lengths clear.
The Training Feat Award is presented to Fernando Geddes for the performance of Treasure Isles to win over seven furlongs, after missing her first two seasons. The Best Winning Gallop was delivered by
King Piye, with the skills of Anthony Allen unchallenged for the Jockeyship Award.
