Footloose celebrates 20 years this Saturday

In 2006, Tyrone Dixon decided to turn his passion for retro music into an event. Twenty years later, the party now known as Stone’s Ginger Wine Footloose is still going strong.

To commemorate the milestone, the organiser will stage a 20th anniversary celebration on Saturday at the Mas Camp, Stadium North, featuring a performance by dancehall artiste Elephant Man.

In an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Wednesday, Dixon recalled the very first staging of the event.

“It was held at the Chinese Benevolent Association (CBA) where one of many parties was held. I recall most vividly the vision of where we are today. I didn’t get the turnout that we expected. We got around 300 people that night, but I kept going,” said Dixon.

Today, Footloose has grown to become one of the most anticipated retro parties on the entertainment scene.

“For others, it would be different but for me, the biggest highlight of Footloose over the years has been the introduction of artistes on the lineup. Our patrons were very receptive to this addition,” said Dixon.

Asked what has kept the event going all these years, Dixon said: “The patrons most importantly, but as a promoter I try to keep the brand current and keep the themes or performances interesting to our patrons. We have evolved from 300 patrons at our first staging to more than 5,000 today.”

Kedish Suckram, the category manager for Stone’s Ginger Wine, a long-standing title sponsor for Footloose, described the association with the event as a shared legacy.

“The partnership isn’t just a logo on a poster, it’s a title sponsorship. By officially naming the event, Stone’s Ginger Wine Footloose, the brand becomes the first thing patrons think of when they plan their night,” Suckram said.

“The ‘vibe’ factor: Stone’s Ginger Wine carries a sense of tradition and warmth that perfectly mirrors the nostalgia of a retro party like Footloose,” Suckram continued. “As a highlight for the event, we will have exclusive Stone’s deals throughout the night, to ensure that the brand is the literal ‘spirit’ of the celebration. Being involved for over 10 years signifies more than just a business deal—it’s a shared legacy. Both brands have solidified themselves as essential parts of Jamaican entertainment.”

She continued, “We have been with Footloose for over 10 years on and off, but we are super excited to be a part of this 20th anniversary. This is a big deal for both brands. It demonstrates that we are both deeply woven into the Jamaican entertainment fabric.

“A curated musical experience designed to take patrons back in time reliving the hits that have defined Footloose over the last 20 years. As Footloose continues to be the ultimate destination for those seeking to relive the best moments of yesteryear, and the younger generations who also enjoys the hits from that era, the partnership with Stone’s Ginger Wine ensures that the celebration remains bold and spicy as the drink itself,” she said, adding “Patrons are encouraged to come out early and prepare for a night where the vibes are timeless and the Stone’s is flowing.”

Elephant Man, popularly known as the Energy God, is billed to perform his slew of hits at the event.

“Patrons can expect more energy from the Energy God himself. Good music as always, and a performance that will take them back in time. They definitely will be dancing all night,” Dixon said.
