Another Wow eyes breakthrough in three-year-old maiden call
The three-year-old maiden offering on tomorrow’s raceday (Sat, Feb 28) has a small field of six starters, including one unraced filly.
The distance of this contest is 6 ½ furlongs and is listed as the Manchester Road OTB Trophy.
The analysis of each of the six entered is provided below for the perusal of readers in post-position order.
1 – PASSION AND BEYOND
Bay filly (April 5) by Savoy Stomp out of Above and Beyond
Trainer – Anthony Nunes
Jockey – Raddesh Roman
Note – Passion and Beyond races with Lasix
Passion and Beyond was originally nominated to compete on January 31 but was declared a late non-starter. This well-bred filly has been showing steady improvement in her morning gallops, and connections are optimistic that she will translate that progress into a competitive effort. With Lasix now in play, she is expected to acquit herself well against this company.
2 — BARBQ
Bay colt (April 18) by Bern Identity out of Dee Q.
Trainer – Anthony Smith
Jockey – Tevin Foster
Note – Barbq races with blinkers off and first-time Lasix.
Barbq has faced the starter twice without producing much to suggest immediate success. However, this colt remains on the learning curve, and the combination of Lasix and the removal of blinkers could spark improvement. His handlers will be hoping for a more encouraging performance as he continues to gain experience.
3 – ANOTHER WOW
Bay filly (April 10) by Casual Trick out of Sarah Barracuda.
Trainer – Anthony Nunes
Jockey – Tajay Suckoo – claims 3 kilogrammes
Another Wow hails from a respectable line but has yet to break through after three attempts. She contested the Eight Thirty Sprint (five furlongs straight) on February 7, finishing behind the debutant
Lexi Lou. Importantly, she was running on late, a quality that should serve her well now stretching to 6 ½ furlongs. With the apprentice claim easing her handicap burden, Another Wow is poised for a bold showing.
4 – ANOTHER QUALITY
Chestnut filly (May 8) by Sensational Slam out of Naturally Mystical. Trainer – Oral Hayden
Jockey – Reyan Lewis
The most experienced of the group with six starts, Another Quality last appeared two weeks ago over seven furlongs. She showed early speed, dictating the pace before weakening in the final stages. The cutback in distance should prove beneficial, allowing her to sustain her effort more effectively.
5 – TOTAL ECLIPSE
Bay colt (April 10) by Savoy Stomp out of My Episode.
Trainer – Alford Brown Jockey – Oshane Nugent
Total Eclipse has only one run under his belt, finishing fourth and well behind the winner at six furlongs. He remains raw and in need of further seasoning, but with time and experience, improvement is likely. For now, he is still learning the ropes.
6 – RED THIRTYTWO
Bay colt (March 9) by Hedge Fund out of Roses For Elle.
Trainer – Gary Griffiths
Jockey – Dane Dawkins
Note – Red Thirtytwo races with the figure 8 on.
Red Thirtytwo has shown incremental progress across three starts, though he has yet to suggest that victory is within immediate reach. The addition of the figure 8 may help his focus, but he still appears some way off from troubling the principals.
CONCLUSION
This contest brings together a mix of lightly raced three-year-old and one seasoned campaigner.
Passion and Beyond looks ready to deliver on her promise, while Another Wow’s stamina and apprentice claim make her a genuine threat. Another Quality’s experience and pace could also prove decisive over the shorter trip. Barbq, Total Eclipse, and Red Thirtytwo are still developing, and while improvement is possible, they may find the leading trio a tough challenge.
