Safety issue not on TransJamaican Highway roads
On February 20, 2026 we published a letter headlined ‘Major safety issue on the north-south highway’ in which the writer outlined a number of concerns.
The letter was accompanied by a photograph of the Portmore toll plaza which TransJamaican Highway has pointed out forms part of its east-west network.
The company has pointed out that TransJam Highway is entirely distinct from the north-south highway. TransJam Highway network comprises T1, which runs from Kingston to Williamsfield and includes the Spanish Town, Vineyards, May Pen, Toll Gate-Main Line and Toll Gate-Ramp toll plazas; and T2, which runs from Kingston to Portmore and includes the Portmore toll plaza.
TransJamaican Highway has also pointed out that over its several years of operation it has “remained diligent in carrying out scheduled maintenance of our roadways to ensure that motorists are provided with a network maintained to first-world standards”.
The Jamaica Observer regrets the use of the photograph with the letter and apologises to TransJamaican Highway.
