U20 Reggae Boyz trounce St Kitts-Nevis 8 – 0
Jamaica’s Under-20 Reggae Boyz cruised to an 8-0 win over St Kitts-Nevis in their Concacaf qualifiers Round 1 Group B game at Stadion Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca in Willemstad, Curacao on Sunday with Sean Leighton and Jamoy Dennis both scoring braces.
The junior Boyz have scored 27 goals in their four wins and maintained the lead in Group B on goal-difference over Puerto Rico who have also won their four games after beating Cayman Islands 2-0 on Sunday.
The Boyz will meet Puerto Rico on Tuesday where a draw would see them top the group and advance to the next round.
Despite the lopsided scoreline, St Kitts-Nevis came close to scoring several times, hitting the cross bar twice and also forcing a good save from Jamaica’s goalkeeper Joshua Grant in the first half.
Leighton opened the scoring in the 10th minute when he fired past goalkeeper Ash-on Maynard and Jabarie Howell added a second two minutes later.
Jahmarie Nolan, after being fouled inside the St Kitts 18 yards box, got up to beat Maynard from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute.
A second penalty conversion, this time from Raequan Campbell-Dennis, in the 53rd minute pushed the score to 4-0 before Leighton completed his brace with a spectacular goal in the 60th minute.
The six foot plus striker headed the ball pass a defender coming in from the right flank, just on top of the 18 yard box, and then swiveled to hit a left-footed half volley high into the top right hand corner of the goal.
Dennis, who was a second half substitute, pounced on a loose ball in the 67th minute to make the score 6-0. Another substitute, Orel Miller scored Jamaica’s seventh goal in the 71st minute before setting up Dennis to complete his brace in time added.
