It’s Women’s Month!
Celebrate every woman, tell her story, give her strength
EVERY March, the world pauses to recognise the achievements, resilience and impact of women. International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8 anchors the month, but Women’s Month is more than a single day, it is a call to reflect, celebrate and recommit to making the lives of women and girls meaningful.
From boardrooms to classrooms, farms to laboratories, homes to government offices, women of all ilks shape our societies in seen and unseen ways. Preparing to celebrate them meaningfully this month requires intention and action.
So how will you celebrate the women and girls in your space for the rest of the month?
1) Start with understanding
Preparation begins with awareness. Take time to learn about the diverse experiences of women. Understanding the challenges women face helps transform celebration from symbolic to substantial.
2) Celebrate the women around you
While global and local women inspire us, Women’s Month is equally about honouring the everyday heroes, the mothers, daughters, teachers, entrepreneurs, caregivers, community leaders. Write notes of appreciation. Nominate them for awards. Highlight them on social media.
3) Support women economically and socially
Preparation can also be practical. Commit to supporting women by, for example, volunteering your time or resources to educational initiatives, service institutions or health programmes that serve women and girls.
4) Create spaces for dialogue and reflection
Women’s Month is not only celebratory, it is reflective. Attend forums where women can share experiences openly. Celebrate all women in your space. True recognition involves partnership.
5) Commit beyond the month of March
The most meaningful preparation is a commitment that extends past March 31. Gender equity and equality is not a seasonal cause. Let Women’s Month be a catalyst for year-round advocacy and mentorship.
Uplifting those around us, supporting women’s initiatives, and sustaining the work beyond a single month is important, because when women thrive everybody benefits.
