KC, JC in hunt for U-14, U-16 football triumph
KINGSTON College (KC) and Jamaica College (JC) remain on course to win the urban under-14 and under-16 titles as the semi-finals kick off on Monday with a double-header at Calabar High School.
Jamaica College will be involved in both games today as their under-14 team will face highly favoured Wolmer’s Boys’ at 2:00 pm, before JC face defending under-16 champion St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) at 4:00 pm.
It will be a big day for JC, known for their prowess in football but who came up empty-handed last season and this season, with the Under-19 Manning Cup team falling in the final to Excelsior High.
These two teams, not the strongest, will have their hands full making it to the final. Firstly, the under-14s will have to get by a prolific Wolmer’s Boys’ team that have been banging goals left, right and centre.
Wolmer’s Boys’ are favoured but JC woud have had their confidence boosted following their 0-0 draw with another prolific team in the form of Kingston College — the defending urban and all-island champions.
Defending under-16 champions STATHS are also fancied to get the better of JC but psychologically, STATHS are struggling to see off JC when it matters most, losing a number of Manning Cup finals and more recently the Walker Cup final.
But there is a feeling this STATHS team will get the job done against a JC unit lacking real quality up front.
Then on Tuesday, it will be the turn of KC to try and reach both the under-14 and under-16 finals. The under-14s, who have not conceded a goal all season, will face Campion College in the curtain-raiser at Emmett Park, St George’s College, at 2:00 pm.
Then at 4:00 pm, KC take on Mona High knowing they defeated them 6-2 in the second round. But this time around, it will be a different scenario as KC will be without their National Under-17 player Kelvin Brown who is off to an academy in Dubai.
