Edwin Allen boys get $1-million Champs boost from former student athletes
CLARENDON, Jamaica—The Edwin Allen High boys team was given a big boost ahead of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Championships set for March 24-28 with a donation of $1million from four former members of the team.
Jevaughn Powell, Bryan Levell, Dennick Luke and Delano Kennedy made the presentation at the Frankfield, Clarendon-based school on Thursday.
Edwin Allen High School boys were eighth at the ISSA Champs last year with 58 points.
Levell, who won the bronze medal in the men’s 200m at last year’s World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, won the Class 1 sprint double in his final year in 2022.
Kennedy won the Class 1 400m in 2023, while Powell, who was a member of Jamaica’s men’s silver medal-winning 4x400m team at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in 2022, won the Class 2 400m at the ISSA Champs in 2017 before moving to Kingston College.
He ran 48.11 seconds to beat Antonio Watson of Petersfield (48.54), with Evaldo Whitehorne of Calabar third in 48.78 seconds.
