Blu Cantrell’s Breathe featuring Sean Paul, is 3x platinum in the UK
KINGSTON, Jamaica—When American R&B singer Blu Cantrell released her sophomore album Bittersweet in June 2003, it contained two Jamaican elements.
The first one, a collaboration with Sean Paul titled Breathe and the second, a collaboration with Inner Circle member Ian Lewis, titled Make Me Wanna Scream.
Released as a single in July 2003, the song Breathe became a global hit, making the Top 10 in the Netherlands, Hungary, Scotland, Germany, Denmark, Australia, Ireland, Norway, Romania and Switzerland.
Breathe spent 4 weeks at #1 on the UK Singles chart. It peaked at #70 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and rose to #17 on the Dance Club Songs chart, #83 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and #23 on Rhythmic Airplay.
On Friday, March 6, Breathe was certified 3x platinum in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for sales and streaming equivalent exceeding 1.8 million units.
Breathe was written and produced by Ivan Matias. It was previously certified gold in Australia, Denmark, Germany and Norway. In New Zealand, it has been certified platinum.
