Indie Allen aims for The Best You
Reggae artiste Indie Allen’s latest release is The Best You.
The ttack is a deeply personal acoustic single written as a father’s letter to his son.
The independently produced track was released on January 16. It was recorded by Jemoi Monteith from clearsonix Music and mixed and mastered by Travis Bailey.
“This song isn’t tied to a trend or a moment it’s tied to legacy. The Best You is a letter I wrote for my son, something that will live far beyond me. Releasing it now felt important because it reflects where I am as a father and as a man, it’s my way of speaking to him through every stage of his life, even if I’ll no longer be physically present to do so one day. With this letter there’s no what if I never get to tell him this or encourage him through any stage of his life. With this he’ll always have my voice as a guide and reminder to always be the best version of himself. Right now, people are craving music that feels real and personal, and this song is my most personal ever written,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
He added: “ I want it to remind him to always choose integrity, self-worth, and love to be the best version of himself no matter what life brings. If others find comfort or motivation in it as well, or it goes to #1 on the charts that’s a blessing, but at its core, this song is for him.”
Allen hails from St James, where he attended Cornwall College before matriculating to Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, where he attained a bachelor’s degree in jazz and popular music studies after being a voice major.
He has clear plans about further establishing his presence in music for this year and beyond.
“My goals moving forward are centred around legacy and ownership, now that I am also a producer. I want to continue creating music that has meaning, depth, and purpose. [Through] music, my son can be proud of and learn about life and love. Beyond success or numbers, my focus is on building a catalogue that stands the test of time and tells my story honestly, so it can live on long after I do. There’s a whole lot of music coming out this year that I can’t wait to share,” he shared.
The singer hopes to collaborate with Damian Marley and Ed Sheeran.
In November 2024 he released his Oasis EP.
