Sharon Marley premières Island
Reggae singer-songwriter and three-time Grammy Award winner Sharon Marley, daughter of the legendary Bob and Rita Marley, released her highly anticipated new single Island yesterday, Friday, March 6, 2026.
The track, features her sister Cedella Marley and Rica Newell, former members of Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers.
It is the second single from her début solo album Firebird set to drop March 20, 2026.
Island is a roots-driven reggae track celebrating unity, womanhood, and love for Jamaica.
Set against a resounding drum-and-bass rhythm, Sharon’s lyrics transport listeners to idyllic days of swimming, enjoying roots wine, and basking in the warmth of island life.
The collaboration with Cedella Marley and Rica Newell adds multi-generational depth, bridging Sharon’s own artistic voice with the heritage of the Marley musical legacy.
In keeping with Sharon’s commitment to giving back, all streaming proceeds from Island will be donated to Humanity Ova Vanity (HOV), a Canadian-based organisation that provides emergency relief, housing stabilisation, and long-term community support in underserved and disaster-affected areas of Jamaica. HOV is currently advancing the Petersfield Community Resilience Hub, a locally driven project offering transitional housing, safe child spaces, and essential social and medical services for families displaced by Hurricane Melissa.
Island follows Sharon’s first single from the Firebird album, Steppah, featuring reggae legend Big Youth, which evokes the golden era of Jamaican rub-a-dub dancehall with its heavy bass-and-drum groove.
The forthcoming album, produced by Leroy Romans, has 11 tracks fusing classic reggae rhythms, soulful storytelling, and the healing vibrations of 432 Hz.
